I adapted it for my altitude by reducing the amount of baking soda, so if you try this recipe and are not at a higher altitude, you may find that you need to add a bit more.<\/p>\n<p>The instructions include a recipe for frosting, though it&#8217;s very good without it.<\/p>\n<p>(And yes, the photo is dreadful. I will try to get a better one next time I make this cake)<\/p>\n<div style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">\n<h3><b>Ginger cake<\/b><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"section clrfix ingredients\" style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">1 1\/2 cups all-purpose flour<br \/>\n1 teaspoon salt<br \/>\n2 teaspoons ground cinnamon<br \/>\n1\/2 cup butter, softened<br \/>\n1\/8 teaspoon ground cloves<br \/>\n1 cup sugar<br \/>\n2 1\/4 teaspoons ginger<br \/>\n3\/4 teaspoon baking soda<br \/>\n1 teaspoon vanilla<br \/>\n1 cup applesauce<br \/>\n1 egg yolk<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<h3 class=\"section clrfix ingredients\" style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"><strong>Frosting<\/strong><\/h3>\n<div class=\"section clrfix ingredients\" style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">8 ounces cream cheese, room temperature<br \/>\n1 teaspoon vanilla extract<br \/>\n2 1\/2 cups confectioners&#8217; sugar<br \/>\n1\/2 teaspoon orange extract<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p class=\"section clrfix ingredients\" style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Noto Serif';\">Preheat oven to 350\u00b0F Grease and flour a 9-inch loaf pan, or a square baking pan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In a medium bowl, stir together the flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves and salt; set aside.<\/p>\n<p class=\"section clrfix directions\">In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Dissolve baking soda into applesauce and mix into creamed butter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"section clrfix directions\">Add flour mixture.
